The Prince and Princess of Wales have asked Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to visit the royal family and bring their children along.
A royal expert, as reported by The Hindustan Times,, has extended a family invitation to Harry and Meghan for a trip to the U.K. after rumors circulated that Harry was upset because his kids, Archie and Lilibet, didn’t get the chance to meet their cousins during the royal Easter celebrations.
Prince Harry is expected to return to England for his Invictus Game event in May. Royal author and expert Tom Quinn says that Kate Middleton and Prince William reached out to the ex-royals, urging them to bring their kids along. However, the Mirror reports that the Duchess of Sussex ‘has put her foot down and refused.’
“There is no way Meghan would bring the children to the U.K.,” Quinn said to the Mirror. “William and Kate have suggested that Meghan and Harry bring the children and that the two couples and their families try to make up, but the suggestion is not leading anywhere so far.”
Meghan’s supposed resistance comes after a long-running royal feud. After leaving the royal family and their royal duties in January 2020, the divide between Harry and William widened after the Duke and Duchess’s 2020 tell-all interview with Oprah, Meghan’s bombshell interview in 2022 with The Cut, and the Netflix docuseries, “Harry & Meghan,” that dropped in December 2022. These three major events caused the royal family to spiral for weeks as they attempted to save face.
However, William and Harry had a falling out, according to royal filmmaker Nick Bullen (via Fox News). It’s actually that William and Harry have had a rift,” he said. “All brothers fall out. All families fall out. Their fallout at the moment is becoming public.”
In March, a former courtier suggested that there were “no plans” for William and Harry to meet since the Prince of Wales was concerned with his wife’s recovery from her abdominal surgery (via People). Royal author Robert Lacey states that the Prince of Wales’ avoidance to see his brother “is all to do with William’s wish to protect the institution of the monarchy, which he feels Harry can’t be trusted with. I don’t think William will ever agree to readmission of Harry into the family unless he clearly apologizes and moves forward.”
However, Kate Middleton’s recent announcement of her cancer diagnosis seemed to shock Harry and Meghan. “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace,” a spokesperson for the Sussexes said in a statement.
While Charles and Harry might be on the road to recovering their relationship–-especially since Charles’ cancer diagnosis—Harry and William’s relationship will likely be on the rocks for a while longer. “Of course [Charles] would like Harry to be the prodigal son and come back and would be much happier if William and Harry were friends again. But he realizes that is just not about to happen,” muses royal biographer Ingrid Seward (via People).
