Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been happily married for nearly six years, and the couple’s love grows stronger each year.
Yet, Ingrid Seward, a royal expert, has recently said Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, would not have gotten along with his wife, per an interview with The Sun.
Prince Harry and Meghan Tie the Knot
Prince Harry appeared to fall head over heels from the moment he met Meghan Markle in July 2016. Just two years later, the pair tied the knot at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
Speaking on the early days of his relationship with Markle, Harry said, “I fell in love with Meghan so incredibly quickly — it was a confirmation to me that all the stars were aligned,” per People.
Royal Experts Say Diana Wouldn’t Have Liked Markle
While Harry and Markle’s relationship has been at the center of various controversies between members of the royal family, one expert has gone as far as to say Princess Diana would not have gotten along with Harry’s wife.
Speaking with The Sun’s royal editor, Ingrid Seward said, “I think it would be very difficult for any mother-in-law to like Meghan because Meghan is a powerful woman, and she likes her own way.”
Why Diana Would Not Have Liked Meghan Markle
As the interview continued, Seward explained why she believed the former Princess of Wales would have clashed with Markle.
“Mothers and sons, basically no one is ever good enough for their little boy.” She continued, “It’s the same with mothers and daughters, too.”
Fergie Disagrees with Royal Expert
However, one royal appears to disagree with the opinion of Seward.
Sarah Ferguson, the former wife of the disgraced Prince Andrew, says Princess Diana would have been “so proud” of who William and Harry both chose as their wives.
What Wonderful Wives They Have Chosen
Speaking with People, Fergie shared her thoughts on what she believes Diana would have said had she gotten the chance to meet her son’s wives.
“If [Diana] were sitting with me right now, I know she would say, ‘I am so proud of both of my boys and the wonderful wives they have chosen,” said Ferguson.
Princess Diana Adored Her Family
Fergie continued, “And she would be just like me, obsessed with her grandchildren because that’s what she loved.
“Diana adored my girls. She adored the boys. This would be her haven. Her heaven,” she added.
Better Choice for Prince Harry
During her interview with The Sun, Seward spoke of Harry’s former girlfriend, Cressida Bonas, who the royal expert claims would have been a better wife for the prince.
According to Seward, Bonas is a “beautiful, lovely girl,” but “she had no desire whatsoever to live that royal life.”
Similarities Between Cressida and Diana
Seward went on to allude to slight similarities between Cressida and Princess Diana.
“I remember her telling me that what she found really hard — and I think Diana used to find this really hard, but it wasn’t so bad in her day — she’d be walking down the street, and people with phone cameras would be taking pictures and say, ‘Oh, look, she’s got dirty hair,'” said the royal expert.
No Intention of Marrying the Prince
However, it appears Cressida never imagined a life with the prince. “And I think that she had no intention, really, of being Harry’s wife,” said Seward.
“I think he would have loved it, and I think he was very keen on her, but I don’t I don’t think she had any intention of ever marrying into that family,” she continued.
Diana Would be Distraught With Her Sons’ Beef
However, Princess Diana would likely be heartbroken if she were here to see how estranged her two boys had become.
The royal brothers’ troubles began in the wake of Harry’s newfound love. One source said William told his brother they knew nothing “about her background, her intentions, what she was really like” (via The Sun).
Would Princess Diana Have Liked Markle?
While it’s difficult to surmise whether Seward’s comments have any basis in reality, one thing is certain: Princess Diana loved her sons more than anything else in the world.
One touching quote uttered by the princess, “I live for my sons. I would be lost without them,” per People, is evidence enough to suggest that Diana would have at least tried to get along with Markle for the sake of her son.
